THE SECRET LIBRARY

Pine Lake Manor was positively filled with incredible and exciting projects for our team, but one of our favorites has to be the secret library. The owner wanted to create a quiet space for reflection, reading, and an area to do puzzles in peace. Originally, the library was meant for the lower level, but through much discussion with the owners and interior designer, we decided the second story would better serve the space. As contractors, it’s incredibly important for us to stay in constant communication with our clients, and work with all our resources to ensure that the final space pairs function and flow with design and that’s how the secret library started.

JUST BEHIND THE BOOKCASE

As you enter the second story from the grand staircase, you’ll see a beautiful built-in bookshelf directly to the left, down the light and airy hallway. But, it’s no ordinary bookcase… When guests trigger a mechanism, the bookshelf opens to reveal a hallway encapsulated in dark, knotty pine board and batten walls. Custom brass sconces line the walls, illuminating the way to a beautiful library. As you walk, you’re greeted with the deep scent of wood, gentle light spilling through the windows ahead.

A Perfect Place for Reading

Custom bookshelves line the walls, framing two reading nooks. Each nook has a built-in bench with a storage drawer complete with cushions and pillows, nestled into large windows overlooking the entrance of the home. Along the back wall, a stately fireplace adds depth and warmth to the room. The split faced fieldstone surrounding the fireplace was reclaimed from the exterior of the original home on the property and pairs perfectly with the hand-hewn walnut mantle. Leather bound chairs and a tufted couch are the perfect environment for deep conversation. For lighter times, the custom, integrated tv cabinet and storage offer a modern respite for the rest of the room. Finally, a custom puzzle table with folding cover keeps the cats away and creates the ideal space for a quiet afternoon of puzzle making.

Custom Finishes

The walls and ceiling are enveloped in board and baton knotty pine, while the floors are covered in hand-made rugs. The brass and sheepskin chandeliers illuminate the main library and were custom designed to match the entryway sconces and add a sophisticated take on traditional finishes. From the reclaimed stone to the deep textures of leather and wood, this space is the perfect marriage of strength and fortitude. The secret library is a quiet oasis away from the daily noise of life and is an incredible space to rest and reflect.
