PICKING THE RIGHT CONTRACTOR

Looking for the right contractor can feel overwhelming, but we have a few tips to keep you on track:

BE HONEST

When you are requesting quotes from contractors, be honest about your project and your budget. Explain your wants and needs in great detail – be open about how much you can spend on your project. Don’t let a contractor upsell you if you aren’t ready to take that extra step.

FIND SOMEONE YOU CAN REALLY TALK TO & TRUST

You’ll be working with your contractor quite a bit throughout your contract – find someone that you feel comfortable being honest with and can easily understand your thought process. You will be making a lot of decisions and learning a lot about the building process as you go, so find a contractor who can explain things to you in a way that makes sense.

CHECK FOR A LICENSE & INSURANCE

Make sure your contractor is licensed and insured through the state of Wisconsin. Should anything happen on the job site, you need a contractor that is ready to handle the situation with minimal setback, damage, and headache.

OUR PROCESS

We like to keep things as simple as possible for our clients. We firmly believe that remodeling or building your new home should be an exciting process, not a point of stress. That’s why we handle everything from start to finish, and let you do the fun part –planning your space and making it a home. Check out our general process below to learn more about how we will kick off your project together and see it through from concept to creation.

first process

MEET THE TEAM

After you’ve decided to work with Renz Construction, you will sit down with owners, Wendy and Greg, to get to know one another and discuss your project. Once they have a handle on your plans they will bring in their architect and interior designer to get the design process started. Learn more about Greg and Wendy here.

DESIGNING YOUR SPACE

You’ll work closely with our architect and/or interior designer to develop plans for your space. Because we are a custom home builder/remodeler, you can design your new space or home free from limitation. Our team can help guide you while you choose where to place your living spaces, bathrooms, bedrooms, and so much more. Let your imagination run wild as our architect turns your dream into a tangible plan. Learn more about the spaces we’ve engineered here.

Third process

Project Bid and Contract Agreement

Designing the blueprints to your new space or home can take some time, and it should. We want to make sure every detail is exactly what you want. After final review and approval by you, our team will develop a quote for review. At Renz Construction, our clients are in direct control of the project budget. The choices you make in design, materials, and special features will guide the quote. We like our clients to be detailed so we can generate a quote that is as accurate as possible.

Once we have solidified plans, we work with our subcontractors to get estimates and pull everything together in a project quote. Once you’ve approved the quote, we set up the contract, sign it, and get to work!

A QUICK TIP FOR OUR CLIENTS

Always reserve 10% of your budget for unexpected expenses. Padding your budget is a good way to prepare for any unforeseen issues in remodeling or building. If we get through the building process and everything goes according to plan, you can use that 10% extra to upgrade your initial plans – go for the more expensive tile or pick the fancier range hood!

Fourth process

GETTING MUNICIPAL APPROVAL

After we’ve signed our contract, Renz will start filing all the appropriate paperwork with your municipality to get permit approval. Greg and Wendy will represent you at municipality meetings for all build-related permit requirements and make sure that your local jurisdiction is aware of your building plans and have approved your requests and will submit all permit applications and any other necessary items on your behalf.

The time between permit submission and approval can vary based on project and location, but Wendy and Greg will keep you updated every step of the way.

BREAKING GROUND

Once all permits are approved, Renz Construction will begin work on your project and that’s where the real fun begins! Your level of involvement is completely up to you. You can make every decision from crown molding to tile, or, if you would rather sit back and relax, work with our interior designer. Our interior designer will put together several options for your approval. From pillows to light fixtures to media centers and everything in between – our interior designer can handle the details so you don’t have to.

Sixth process

KEEPING IN TOUCH

Owners Greg and Wendy are at work sites every day, keeping track of the project, working with sub-contractors, and handling the scheduling. When you call to get a progress update or to ask a question, you won’t be speaking with a receptionist, but rather, you’ll connect directly with Greg or Wendy for updates.

Seventh process

KEEPING IT CLEAN

Whether remodeling a space in your home or building a new one, Renz Construction is adamant about keeping the site clean. The Renz team uses floor coverings for every project and has invested thousands of dollars in advanced construction tools that eliminate dust during use. Every single night the Renz team cleans the work site, removes all tools and additional materials, sweeps, and vacuums. During in-home remodeling projects, we wrap the site in a special plastic and use zipper doors to separate the work site from the rest of the home. Finally, we bring in a professional cleaning crew after key milestones in the building process to be extra thorough.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE

When Renz Construction works on your home, we treat it like our own. Our clients are our friends and we’re always ready to accommodate special requests. Let us know if you have scheduling requirements, any special needs regarding the safety of your pets, or even if you’re headed home and need some help bringing in groceries. We’re here to make your project as smooth as possible.
